Would you like to volunteer in Peru?
Considering a vacation to the jungle?
We are happy to have volunteers accompany us on our trips. If you have an interest in the Amazon rainforest and the indigenous peoples who live there, you may enjoy this experience. It is not necessary to have a medical background to assist us. However, if you are a nurse, nurse midwife, doctor, or dentist, your skills could be beneficial and we would arrange our trip to make the most of your talent. We can coordinate your time with health care professionals from Peru, so you could be learning about jungle medicine as well as sharing your skills. If you wish, we can also visit the hospitals in Iquitos and the clinics in the jungle.
If your interest is only to observe, please join us as well.
Each trip can be individualized to meet your needs. Although most of our time is on the rivers or in the villages, we can add adventures to your trip, like jungle hikes with an experienced guide, or an early morning canoe ride for birdwatching and spotting monkeys and sloths. We can sleep in a modest hotel or in a jungle hut, both with mosquito nets. You will meet the gentle people in the villages along the Napo River and see the huts that they live in and the canoes that they make by hand. You will be interacting with real people during their daily lives.
Spanish is the common language in the jungle. There are many tribal languages, but the children learn Spanish in school and it is the accepted common language. However, if you speak little or no Spanish, we have a bilingual guide who will assist you. There is no English spoken in the jungle.
So come, bring your camera and your sense of adventure to share in our mission of bringing better health care to the villages in the Amazon rainforest.
There is no charge to volunteer with DB Peru, however volunteers must pay their own travel and personal expenses.
