Anne Larson, Todd Carlson and Chris Warner from the University of Colorado School of Medicine worked on the Napo River during June, July and August 2008 collecting data on healthcare needs and communication.
They returned as 4th year medical students for the month of July 2010 to conduct 2 classes for the health promotores on the Amazon River and Napo River.  The classes were based on a program from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Minister of Health in Peru.  In addition they volunteered at the 2010 Health Fair for DB Peru, teaching various classes.
Payel Gupta was a 4th year resident in Internal Medicine during her time with DB Peru in the Pediatrics Dept. at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.  In May 2008, she shared her time to assist in a home (asilo) for the aged that we help support in Morropon, Peru.  She also visited the girls' home of Caritas Felices and the orphanage of Villa Martha to treat children that were sick.  Payel completed her residency June 2008.  We wish her well in her Fellowship in New York.
Judit Madorell, a student in environmental science from Barcelona, Spain joined us July and August, 2008 for her practical experience, working at Caritas Felices Girls' Home.
Amy Cook was a 3rd year resident in Family Medicine from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver, CO and taught our midwife class September 2007.  She used the class as her medical school project and completed her residency in June 2008.  We wish her well in starting her new career.
Jessica Miller, Jason Murphy, Blair Woodbury and Tin Ha-Ngoc were first year medical students from the University of Colorado for 2 months in 2009, assisting doctors with health care, researching needs of the jungle villages, and teaching classes with the 2009 Health Fair with DB Peru
Brandon Konkel, Richard Actis and Adam Plate were first year medical students in 2010 from the University of Colorado and assisted the 4th year students with teaching promotor classes.  Shelby Kemper joined the group as a first year pharmacy student, helping teach the classes for promotores and in the health fair.

We would like to extend a welcome to any university or medical students and professors who would like to work in our area of the jungle to collect data for research projects or complete a practicum.  Depending on the particular needs of the individuals involved or of the university, we will be happy to assist with any planning or logistical details.

We also provide oversight and learning opportunities for students or residents wishing to complete the field study of their university major or residency.  For students accepted into our program, we will provide the university with a course outline of practical experience, defining goals and objectives with timelines, as well as appropriate follow-up requirements.
