RADIO       PROJECT
Radios, solar panels, antennas and batteries have been installed in the villages of San Juan de Floresta, San Alejandro, Canadá and Tigrillo.  The clinic in Orellana received a new radio to replace a non-functioning one.

The goal of this project is to place radios and equipment in strategic locations along the Napo River.  Not only have the radios helped with emergency communication about healthcare problems, they have served as a link for information between hospitalized loved ones in Iquitos back to the families in the villages.   One hospital spokesperson told us that the radios were proving to be extremely important to the overall health and outlook for the hospitalized patients, relieving their feelings of isolation.  The radios have also shown to be effective for the clinics to communicate back to the villages about the diagnostic results of testing, such as malaria.

INSTALLING THE ANTENNA IN SAN ALEJANDRO
Routine maintenance
John and Renzo lay out the antenna with the help of the entire community of men.  By tying 2 ladders together, they have a precarious access to the top of the pole.

The Municipality of Mazan is intending to buy 2 boats to be used for emergencies when the villages call on their radios for help.  The clinic will dispatch a boat to either provide treatment or transport to the clinic or hospital.  This makes our radio program more vital than ever in providing health access to more people.
